Fire Sprinklers

It is over 150 years since the first commercial sprinkler system was installed and over the intervening years they have proved themselves as an effective means of providing fire protection at all times of day or night.

Fire Insurers, Fire Fighters and Building Control Officials have for many years realised the effectiveness of sprinklers when planned into the fire strategy for new builds and furthermore by the introduction of a fire sprinkler system there can be a “trade off” against fire resisting structural requirements, required under Approved Document ‘B’.

Under fire conditions the system will detect the fire, can relay a signal to the fire service, immediately start to fight the fire and provide protection to the fire fighters who attend the incident.

Fire sprinkler systems are a silent watchman ready to respond to that unwanted fire.

Water Supplies

Water for a sprinkler system may be taken directly from the Public Service Main provided it is reliable and meets the flow and pressure requirements of the system. However many water supply companies are reducing the pressure within there supplies to help minimise water losses due to leakage and in most cases suppliers will not guarantee delivery pressures.

To ensure a suitable delivery of water UK Firewatch can install approved water storage tanks and pumps.

Pressure Check

In some instances, where space is at a premium it may not be possible to site a water storage tank. Given the approval of the client’s insurer it may be possible to install “Pressure Check”.

Pressure Check is a system which uses a pump to boost the incoming water supply pressure without the danger of causing damage to the supply pipework.
