Bridgewater Place is the latest high rise tower block to be opened in Leeds city centre which comprises a mixture of commercial, retail and apartments.

As part of the fire strategy plan a life safety fire sprinkler system has been installed to the commercial and retail areas designed to BS5306: Part 2: 1990, Ordinary Hazard Group 3 requirements by UK Firewatch.

The system was designed in zones to ensure that in the event of any future work on the system the maximum number of sprinkler heads in a single zone that could be isolated, would not exceed 200.

Each zone was provided with its own valve arrangement to allow isolation, flow switch, facility to test the operation of the flow switch simulating a single sprinkler operating and 50mm drain valve.

All isolation valves were provided with an anti tampering device to monitor the current status of the valves and to give a warning of any unauthorised closing or opening of any valve.

A duplicate water supply was included comprising 2No LPCB approved electric motor driven fire pumps each drawing water from 2 purpose built concrete water storage tanks.

The main contractor was Bovis Lend lease and UK Firewatch carried out the design, installation and commissioning of the sprinkler system as a subcontractor to Shepherd Engineering Services.
